Background: This piece was created using a method of etching grout from a copper plate and bathing said plate in an acidic bath. The result is the black lines (the negative) that are “etched” into the copper plate.
The concept revolves around using the Barbados popstar Rihanna’s 2016 song “Love On The Brain.” An influence for the design came from old illustrated medical texts and diagrams of the human body with an emphasis on typography. Also, vein work embellishments can be found throughout the work. The piece is meant to showcase how the 2016 song’s lyrics highlight the addictive/destructive power qualities of love.
